by Erik Larson. I'm not even half-way into this book yet but am really enjoying it. It's about the World's Fair in Chicago over 100 years ago and focuses on two men: the architect who designed the fair (Daniel Burnham) and the serial killer who was haunting the fair (killed up to 200 people). This book is actually nonfiction but reads like a juicy fiction novel. I sort of like being able to look up the characters I'm reading about and seeing their pictures, etc. If you like good stories, are into history, or architecture (or serial killers, lol), definitely check this one out.

I have to talk more about this book, lol. It gets better and better with each chapter. I guess it's such a surprising find for me. I'm not generally a fan of non-fiction. Every other chapter is about the serial killer or architect and I never want a chapter to end. The World's Fair stuff is amazing. It was like its own city and they basically built it in under two years. It also had a huge effect on our life today. Just little things like they decided to go with A/C current to supply electricity (instead of D/C which was most popular at the time). Now we all use A/C. Also, the Ferris Wheel was invented for the Chicago World's Fair as a way to "out-Eiffel Eiffel" (there was a lot of pressure to make this fair better than the one in Paris for which the Eiffel Tower had been built).
Then the serial killer is just crazy creepy. He was one of those people that could just charm the pants off of anyone. But he was a complete psychopath. I can't believe I'd never heard of him! They don't even know how many people he killed. Apparently HUNDREDS of people travelled to the Chicago World's Fair and never came home. Any number of those could be contributed to this guy.
Anyway, had to second my own recommendation, lol. Might have to check in when I finish the book too!
