Curious about how flexible the work environment is with employees working from home.

I'm only able to work from home in "emergencies" like sick children, daycare closed, and other issues that keep me from making it into the office. That flexibility is so important for me. I'm lucky that my position allows this. Not everyone in my company is allowed the flexibility.

I work from home fulltime. Well, acutally I do real estate appraisals and I am out 1-3 days a week looking at property. I live in a rural area for a company that provides real estate and operating loans to farmers and ranchers. The company and most the staff are really agriculture and family oriented so they are pretty flexible when it comes to employees taking time off for family.
My working out of the house started when my husband to a ranch job that was waaaaay out in the boon docks. They were good enough to allow me to work out of the house on a trial basis. We have moved since but I have continued to work out of the house. Actually, there are six appraisers on staff and all but two work out of their homes. There are some other associations looking into it or already do this also. We are just in a position within the organization where we are not needed at the office everyday. I feel pretty lucky to have the opportunity. Well, better get back to work - that can be a real challege to working at home - staying focused!

I have the flexability of working from home when I want. I usually go into the office twice a week (and mostly for the socialization and the pressure to get me to take a shower in the morning!!) For a while I was really bummed out on my job, but I really sat down and thought about it and realized I am very lucky to have that flexability. My boss is in our west coast office, and I am in the east. Everything I do is over email, instant messenger and the internet, so truly it does not matter where I am. I find I get more done when working at home (due to the lack of socialization). Also my commute is typically 30 minutes each way to the office, so I can basically work an extra hour for the company when I am at home. I also can manage to throw a load or two of laundry in, and get dinner prepared. It's wonderful and I feel very lucky to have this flexability. I have many working mom friends who don't, and I see the added stress it causes on them. Companies need to evolve......and I believe it will happen, but it's going to take time.

I think we will see more companies offer the opportunity to work from home - at least part time. I think there is a movement to swing the pedulum a little more towards the middle when it comes to work and family. I think companies will realize that if they want to keep good quality people they will have to offer some flexibilty - not only working from home but different shifts where parents can juggle when they go and come home from work sto the kids have someone home more. Plus there is pressure for traffic and environmental reasons also.

I'm able to work from home in emergencies (like a sick kid) or if I simply have too much work to get done during my normal hours. I do really appreciate it. Overall, my company's pretty flexible.

My company does offer it but you need to live at least 75 miles from the office. (No go on that one for me). They do offer a compressed work week where you work 4 days 10 hours and then have one day off.
My boss is pretty flexable and if I have Dr's appointments or the kids are sick, she understands and is really flexiable with my hours all long as I get my work done.

I work from home 1 afternoon/week and if the weather is bad. I don't usually do it any other time because I don't want to push my luck. The bad part is occasionally I was suppose to be off and have ended up working from home because stuff needed to get done even though I was suppose to be off.

It's impossible for me to work from home because my job is medical. The patients would have to come to my house! I sure would like it if I could work from home on occasion, but I also enjoy my job, and for me to do that would mean switching to an entirely different career.

I have a laptop and can hook up to our network from home, so it is possible to do it - just not encouraged. I only do it in emergencies

I am not able to work from home, but I work for a small company and The owner is really flexible ( he has 3 young girls of his own). If I need to leave for Dr appoints, Run home cause the little guys is getting sick, Anything, He is fine with it. I can even bring him to work if the in-laws (who are the sitters) have an appointment to go to.
