How do you keep your sanity during the holidays ? I mean family visits, extra cooking, extra shopping and blow the 'normal' routine completely out the window...it's enough to drive you crazy.

The holidays are always hard for me. I try to plan everything out so I'm not leaving everything until the last weekend. i.e. Dec 2nd - tree, Dec 9th - holiday party, Dec 16th - cookies. I also try to do my shopping as early as possible - I do a lot on line.
I have an excel spreadsheet with a budget and I keep it updated. Today at lunch I took care of about 5 presents (we have 2 large families - between us there are 8 bro/sisters, all married, with 9 neices/nephews)
I mainly just try not to leave stuff until the last minute....

I spend my lunch hour running errands. I keep a spreadsheet of everything that has to be bought for gifts. I'm like Amy...don't wait until the last minute but I usually end up running around crazy up until the last minute!

Can I just say, Amy--I am SO impressed?
Honestly, with the holidays, I sort of just close my eyes, jump off the cliff, and hope for the best! My dh works crazy hours during the holidays--and it's my busy season too--which makes it extra difficult. Luckily, our families are very easy going.

A spreadsheet? Wow, I am impressed. I just have a little notebook and check off names. I budget a certain amount for each but I don't add it up because I'd probably get sick if I knew the exact number. I've got most of the kids stuff including friends kids done and I'm working on family now. We also have a 1st birthday party to plan in addition to normal holiday things so I'll be insane by Jan. 1 for sure!!!!!!!!!! Lois

Amy I am so impressed!
I try to remember that there is only so much I can do, and if it doesn't get done, well January will be here soon.

Another thing that helps is I keep all my addresses in a word document that prints the address labels. I know, not as personal as handwritten, but that is what I update when everything changes. So, I am totally not personal, but it doesn't take much time to do my x-mas presents Amy

I do the same thing Amy for my holiday cards. I'd never get them done otherwise.

I still miss things, unfortunately. I need to buy my Dog something which I completely forgot. And then, this year, I thought it would be good for ds (3) to buy things for his sister and Dad - which isn't on the list/spreadsheet/in the budget. It will be small, but unplanned. So, I guess it gets me started in the right direction Amy
