Has anyone tried any of those places where you prepare your meals, using their ingredients and recipes, bag them up with cooking instructions and take them home to your freezer, to be used at a later date?
Sorry, that's the best description I could think of for these places.... I have one near me called 'Supperworks" - their motto is "taking the work out of supper".
You can book a time to go in, on an evening or a weekend, and choose 6 meals to make. (NOTE: One must have a decent sized freezer to store all of these meals).
They have separate work stations, per recipe, that they change on a monthly basis. They have all the ingredients already chopped up (how NICE) and you simply walk through with the recipe in hand and prepare it, in a to-go fashion.
I just tried this place near me. I got a turkey meatloaf dish (delicious), a chicken caccitore crockpot dish (meat fell off the bone yummy) and a vegetable curry dish (which I have yet to thaw). The place near me just opened up and I am hearing about these places popping up all over North America.
Search and see if you have one near you - it's a GREAT idea for working moms. You know you have a great meal or two (or 6) in your freezer!! Plus, it might introduce you to some new and exciting recipes!

I've tried this and really liked it! The only problem I really saw was that ours seemed pricey so if your on a budget it might be rough. Plus as you said you need plenty of room in your freezer! All the recipes were great though! I'd love to find other moms and kind of trade the recipes KWIM? If I got 3-6 different ones and someone else got 3-6 and so on we could figure out a way to make a months worth on a Sunday at home :-)

We have one here by me but I've never tried it. It seems a little pricey to me too. But I'd love to try it at least one month.

I am the queen of these places! I love, love, love them. They are pricey ($20 - $25 per meal, 6 or 8 meal minimum), but great. I have 1 or 2 of these a week.
I started with Dream Dinners - and I liked them. Their portions were generous (fed 6 people most the time - i.e. a chicken dish had 6 large chicken breasts) and the food wasn't too bad. The downsides were that they were crowded most the time and didn't include side dishes.
I'm currently hooked on Dinner's Ready. Their kitchen is more organized. I book a private party for me and my friends, and if I don't get 8 people, they just open it up. Their meals are a little less hearty, but include side dishes, which are great (Risotto, Potatoes, etc). I like their flavors better. They also have "Grab and Go" Service, which you can just stop by and pull one of their meals out of the freezer and go.
For both, I like assembling (though you can have someone do that for you) because if I don't like something (i.e. onions or peppers) I just leave it out. And I can choose how spicy/not I make it.

Amy I want to go to one of the ones that have the sides! That would be perfect for us to just have it all together and more worth the money I think. When it's just the main dish I still have to think about dinner KWIM? Hmm I never thought about booking a private party either that's a great idea for a girls night out K~

We don't have one of these yet. All that we have is a place we can call, order a frozen meal from their menu and then pick it up on our way home but these are way pricey and generally speaking I try to have these types of frozen meals in my freezer that I've made ahead of time plus my husband works for a company that makes frozen meals. I wish they had one just to try tho!
