I said that it's all me because if daycare calls, I pick him up and take the day off. However, if he can't return to school within a few days, I usually call his grandma on his dad's side. With the boys being off for Summer, I'd probably leave him at home if need be.

It's me that usually has to take the time off work. Now don't get me wrong I WANT to be the one to take care of my babies when they're sick (because you know no one takes care of them like their mommies) but it would be nice for dh not to have an excuse as to why he CAN'T!! Even if he would at least offer and give me the chance to turn him down. Another thing why do I ALWAYS feel so guilty when I have to call into work when they are sick? LOL Sorry this post sounds more like a vent then a reply Kat

Seems like moms take the brunt of this. I always feel guilty too. But what can you do?

Randomly, my husband can take this duty on, but he works in construction and pretty much works when there is work. I have the luxury of having paid time off (18 days a year), so it's usually on me. I don't mind unless I have used a lot of time off at the time and feel pressure from work not to call in.

It has to be me because I'm the one with paid vacation. When vacation runs out we alternate, but I rarely run out.
Sometimes if it's going to be more than 1 day my mother in law or sister in law will help out. But I've missed a LOT of work for sick kids!

I know, so have I. I feel guilty but I try to remember that I make up for it by bringing a lot to the company. And my kids have to take priority.

I've been the primary one to miss a lot of work for most of my kids lives now (my oldest is 15 and youngest is soon to be 3). I guess I must bring something good to the company because I've yet to be fired for it. However it does cause a certain measure of stress, like everyone else I'm sure.

Ugh, I'm dealing with this right now and it's so hard. My daycare provider has been sick a ton lately. Of course I have to use up my precious PTO (that I'd like to save for vacation or when my kids are sick). I don't know what to do, I hate it!

When ds is sick I'm the one that stays home from work to take care of him. If for any reason I can't take off because I'm going out of town or something like that, my mom will take a day off with him. I guess I could say I can work from home when ds is sick since I'm required to carry a cell phone from work and it never stops ringing!!!

It's all on me to take the day off if DD has to stay home for some reason. If I know in advance (i.e. if the babysitter tells me she needs a day off sometime in the future), I usually ask my mom if she wants to watch her and she usually does. She loves taking time off to hang out with her granddaughter! It would never even occur to DH that HE should take the day off.

Wow, it's amazing how many of us have to take responsibility for this all of the time. Men don't realize how good they have it

I'm lucky this year. My mom has retired so she ahs been able to help when need be so far. She is looking for something part time though so we may end up losing that. Before it was all me. Dh is hourly and doesnt' get paid if he is not there. I at least have a small amount of flex time.

My mother is retired so she is my primary back-up. DH is self-employed so he can't really take a day off. I'm able to work from home so that is my other option.
